Our Owner
Nyssa Craton graduated from Purdue University in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Food Science. Her goal was to find a career she could be passionate about and commit to long-term. Luckily, the local winery was hiring an Assistant Winemaker the same semester she was due to graduate! She quickly discovered a love for winemaking and took over the lab and production side of the winery so the owners could focus on running the rest of the business. She learned as much as she could through both trial and error and formal classes in order to produce the highest quality wines.

After 12 years of crafting award-winning wines, Nyssa officially became the owner of Wildcat Creek Winery in 2025. Her hands-on experience and passion for winemaking guide every decision as we move forward, ensuring the traditions you love remain at the heart of our operation. She is committed to preserving the quality and authenticity that have defined Wildcat Creek Winery, while introducing new experiences—from exclusive tastings and events to expanded wine club offerings. Whether you’re a long-time supporter or discovering us for the first time, we invite you to join our journey and taste the difference that passion and expertise make in every glass.

Our Founders
Rick and Kathy Black opened Wildcat Creek Winery in 2008. They are true Indiana entrepreneurs who love the creative process of winemaking, working with a great staff, and meeting guests who drop by the winery from places near and far.
Rick earned a Masters Degree in Business from Indiana University. He worked as a corporate controller prior to retiring to pursue his dream of owning his own business. Rick devoted seven years to learning about winemaking while developing plans for a winery start-up in Tippecanoe County. In 2003-04 he developed, presented, and gained approval for a winery amendment to be added to the Tippecanoe Unified Zoning Ordinance. He served as President of the Indiana Winery & Vineyard Association and as a member of the Purdue Wine Grape Council. Rick was the Executive Winemaker and General Manager at the winery.
Kathy earned a Masters Degree in Education from Purdue University. She worked for Lafayette School Corporation as a middle school Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for 30 years. She was the Tasting Room Director and Event Coordinator at the winery for 17 years.
